Self Advocacy
These sessions include social and soft skills curriculum and directed discussion based on current learning/experiences. Pre- and post-assessments are used to adjust instruction and assess progress of each participant. There is specific emphasis on building self-advocacy skills and its application to school success and successful employment in the future. Examples of content include a focus on communication, knowledge of disability disclosure, identification of transferrable skills, soft and social skills, team building, sources of motivation, and the power of positivity.
Workplace Readiness
These sessions include social and soft skills curriculum and directed discussion based on current learning/experiences. Pre- and post-assessments are also used to adjust instruction and assess progress of each participant. Examples of content include a focus on communication skills training and practice,team building and problem solving, identification of skills and abilities, impact of positivity in employment success, job seeking skills, employer’s expectations, tools and strategies for successful employment, conflict resolution, and social media practices.
Job Exploration
These sessions include a focus on career exploration and have virtual interaction with career speakers from student and facilitated selected vocational fields. These will include the viewing of workshops and “day in the life” videos to build a comprehensive understanding of the field of interest. Vocational assessments and educational sites from sources like O’Net Interest Profile are used to determine and cultivate vocational interests. This work will initiate the mapping of career possibilities to create a portfolio based on career options, consistent with interests and abilities. Additionally, there will be guided research into the exploration of high demand jobs, review of labor market data to determine job growth and desirability, potential salary, and educational requirements.
Work/Personal Adjustment
Comprehensive coaching program which provides services that are specific to the needs of the individual. A wide range of assistance can be selected by the counselor and customer including: practice with soft and social skills, improving motivation, developing and maintaining peer relationships, team building skills, preparation for a job interview, improving time management/task completion, body language and non-verbal communication, developing increased confidence, and improving dependability.
MCTI Success
This workshop consists of 6 group sessions along with follow-up support with each student while attending MCTI. The overarching goal is to increase the number of students who attend MCTI and complete it successfully. Sessions are activity based and are built around a curriculum that includes data from students’ pre-assessments, which are used to adjust instruction and assess progress of each participant. Program components are based on MCTI staff information. Examples of emphasis include:

Social/communication-recognizing and reading social cues, awareness of appropriate/inappropriate behavior, and any social issues/concerns that might arise from student discussion

Success in the dorm room with peers -dorm drama, shared space, and awareness of boundaries when sharing space

Independent living -staying up all night playing video games, taking meds as prescribed, and class attendance
